Set in the Ötztal Alps, Obergurgl enjoys a great reputation as a winter sports resort and attracts visitors from all over the world. Skiing fans can be sure of a brilliant winter holiday. With 110 kilometres of slopes from beginners' to advanced level, Obergurgl and Hochgurgl make an excellent choice for your skiing holiday. Beginners and families with children can take to the blue slopes. These all have a gentle incline and are much wider than usual. For those venturing out on skis for the first time or accompanying their children, the blue slopes are designed for maximum enjoyment in quieter surroundings. More advanced skiers can choose from the red and black slopes. Here, the inclines are much more pronounced and you can pick up a lot more speed on the descent. Those who have mastered the sport can join one of the special tours that take you right into the deep snow amid magnificent surroundings.

Between descents, you can stop off for a while at one of the many mountain huts and fortify yourself for your next run. Many of the huts feature a wonderful sun terrace where you can relax on a lounger and just enjoy the superb weather. And of course, the resort boasts a number of fine mountainside bars and restaurants to cater for hungry and thirsty skiers. Both regional specialities and international dishes are served, with something for every taste.

Obergurgl also has a great range of off-piste activities. Fans of cross-country skiing will find some excellent trails leading through the area's beautiful, snow-covered landscape. As you make your way along, you can stop whenever you like to admire the unspoilt mountain scenery. What better way to relax? Keen walkers can try out some of the specially cleared winter hiking trails. The best place to find out more about winter hikes, guided tours and the resort's popular snowshoe trails is the Obergurgl ski school.

Other options include ice skating and curling at the ice rink by the Enzian Hotel. The rink is popular with both younger and older visitors. You can take a break, too, and warm up with a hot drink before venturing back onto the ice. In winter, young children will particularly enjoy the outdoor toboggan run in neighbouring Hochgurgl. Getting to Hochgurgl is easy by shuttle bus, and you can hire all the equipment you need when you arrive. Parents can join the kids on the toboggan run or just leave them to it and watch from the sides.
